    Is this just a simple Twitter feed reader built into Safari? Are there any settings or can the option be turned off? I'm finding its somewhat delayed with the latest Tweets.

    Yes, and it appears to only pull tweets that have links, and the links automatically open to the original site. Not bad if you want a cursory look at what your followers are recommending while you browse the web, but I do a lot of reading and send a great deal of articles to Instapaper or use the reader function within Safari for easier reading. By the way, I don't see a way to disable to Safari Twitter feed at this time.
