Default passcode for iOS7 update?

I updated my wife's iPad last night, and now there's a passcode activated. I don't know what it is, so nobody can get into it now. It's never had a passcode set before. If the update prompted for a passcode, I missed it because I just started the download and let it do it's thing until I came back to it later.
Does it assign a default if you don't enter anything? Otherwise, is my only option doing a total reset?

I figured I would have to restore it. I totally missed any prompt for a passcode because I was doing other things while it was updating. Never saw a prompt for it. Oh well, lesson learned, and a cautionary tale for others.
