Gevey Unlock Iphone 4 w/6.0.1

My friend from Japan was wondering if she can unlock her Japanese iPhone4 (running 6.0.1) and use it here in the U.S.
I've done some research and already found out that there are no possible software unlocks for 6.0.1 as of now, but I also found out about the Gevey SIM unlock.

My question is...

will I be able to unlock this phone with the Gevey SIM that is currently out in the market?​

Depends on what baseband (modem firmware) the iPhone has.
A safer bet would be to look for a IMEI unlock. The price depends on the carrier. It could be as little as $5 or as much as $150.

Yeah I'd definitely go for IMEI unlock, that way she wouldn't have to worry about losing the unlock when upgrading to newer iOS versions as it happens with the other "temporary" unlocking methods.

What carrier is the iPhone from? Since he's in Japan I'm sure imei unlock is going to be expensive.

Now that the iPhone 5 is out why not just buy a factory unlocked iPhone 4 on ebay or Kijiji
