Everyone is right, it's the servers. I got so upset when my phone when into recovery mode that I had to take a Xanax. I'm not tech savvy so I panicked. After 2 hours and numerous trys it finally updated.

If you're getting that constant loop, you have to get it out of that loop by forcing it into DFU mode. Other than that, it'll pick up on it's own. It was a long cycle for me to get it out of the loop, enter DFU mode, try to install, FAIL, repeat. Until it worked.

yeah i got it out of the cycle of death lol and it's in dfu now, the connect to itunes screen.

Thank you for this information. Like I'm telling most people, Apple's servers are exhausted. They've been taking quite a hit since the 4S went on sale and now iOS 5 and iCloud at once. If the error keep up, I'd give it time before you do anything else.

It may work/have worked, but I think it's all about timing and finding that window of opportunity to get through the servers.

so if my download stopped in the middle and now giving me an error will that cause problems in the software when it resumes download and it finally works?

It's all because of Apple's servers, guys. I can assure you that (probably) nothing is wrong with your computers or iOS devices. It's the biggest release of an iOS since the first iPhone, and there's no dedicated server for each user. Everyone is on the same one, hence all the errors people are receiving.

I finally got mine, it was definately an Apple server issue. I just kept hitting update until it went through, same deal with my wifes.

Mine did the same thing, 5 times...and I didn't have any problems. Besides anxiety.

No, it's just a server overload. I'm sure Apple is getting hammered with calls right now too, all telling them the same thing: Server overload. Try again later.

Imagine you running a server and tens of millions of people are trying to connect to it at once. How much power would you need? More than you have.

I downloaded it directly and just saved it on my computer worked flawlessly... the apps though been trying to update apps all day!

I get as far as backing up iPhone... Then "extracting software" starts and then I get a can't restore iPhone at this time because server is temporarily unavailable or busy. Try again later. I have restarted computer and phone. Been trying for 6 hrs! My sister in law is in FL and just got it on first try!

It has been confirmed. To those of you who can't save the file there is an easy workaround: Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / WordPad and Right Click and choose "Run as Administrator". This will give you the right to save the changed file. And your upgrade will work. Note - I did reboot my computer before trying again just to make sure the change took.

im stuck in recovery mode, connect to iTunes screen. i try to update to iOS5, and i keep getting a "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
