Read the guide BUT - Unlock firmware 02.10.04

It is an apparently trivial question. It is just the fact that after all excellent guides I've read, it is still not clear to me if I can unlock my iPhone.

It is AT&T iPhone 4 with ver. 4.1 (8B1117) and firmware 02.10.04.
Some guides say that this firmware can't be unlocked. Is it true? Anything new (in software, not Turbo SIM)? Can the firmware be changed so the phone can be unlocked? If so, any drawbacks?
