I have tried to figure out how to jb/unlock my iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 with 05.15.04...and am now more confused than when I started. I have read some good things and bad. I was helped out greatly on this site before and hope to be helped again. I have tried greenpoison with no luck. Can someone please give me best method? Thanks in advance for all suggestions.
Go here, find your model/firmware/baseband, and watch the video walkthrough. (You'll need to figure out if you have the old or new bootloader for the 3GS, but that's probably the hardest part of the whole thing.)

There are plenty of videos on youtube...just search for greenpois0n 3gs 4.2.1 and you'll find them.
and so on...greenpois0n and ultrasnow will do the job; you just might need to try it a few times to make sure you're getting into DFU mode correctly and so on...good luck!
You can JB, but you can't unlock with 5.15 baseband. Right now, the only option is to use the hacked 6.15 iPad baseband, but their are problems the comes from using it. If you decide to go that route, make sure you know the issues before doing it.
