Iphone 4 jailbreak help

I also have:

Iphone 4
firmware version: 4.1(8B117)
the phone was purchased in November 2010 from the
online Apple store (London)

I tried doing some research to jailbreak it
and seems like limera1n is the way to go?

I just want to confirm that I am on the right track,
just want to make sure that im not gonna brick the device
threads from different sources from different dates confuse me

Limera1n or Greenpois0n, either one can jailbreak 4.1 for you.

Either, doesn't matter, everyone has used both, I used Limera1n

one more question, if I do use limera1n to jailbreak,
would anything be erased such as photos, contacts,

Nothing will get erased. However, it would be wise to connect to iTunes, and when your iPhone pops up in the left hand navigation to right click, and select "backup" BEFORE you jailbreak. Otherwise, you should be fine . That way if something does go wrong with the jailbreak, you plug into your computer, and hit restore in itunes.
