iphone 4 4.2 jailbreak question

i just used redsn0w to jailbreak my iphone 4
worked fine but cydia is a gray icon and wont open did i do it wrong or somthing?

You need to use redsn0w again and just check the tethered reboot option, you need to do this everytime you reboot your phone.

No you installed a tethered jailbreak. So everytime you reboot you will need to plug it in and open redsn0w and select just boot tethered so it will boot in its jailbroken state. If you don't no JB feature will work.

If you install any tweak to mobilesubstrate or the filesystem your phone will NOT even boot up at all without being tethered to the computer. I have this JB as well and I haven't had an issue yet. But if you are new to the JB scene I would highly suggest you read up and learn about this or restore your phone and wait for an untethered jailbreak.
