How to manually update to the new Cydia

I found a good little write up to manually update to the new Cydia. I did it earlier and so far its working great for me.

Is this true that there is a new cydia and this is how to get it? The version I'm running is 1.0.3222-73. I'm on an iPhone 3GS on 4.0 jailbroken with jailbreakme.com.

Because, If this is the official updated , then doing this right now!!

Yes its the official build of Cydia its version 1.0.3366-1. The article also states what firmwares it will work with

Ok thanks! And one more question...
When I install it, will by cydia apps be all gone? And if anything goes wrong could I get the old cydia back?

FYI I do believe the latest versions of redsn0w already have this cydia version. Ia am showing 1.0.3366-1 already and I certainly didn't do this manual update.

If you used the redsn0w to jb 4.2.1 then yes the new cydia was included. However for those that are still on 4.1 and jb with greeposi0n or limera1n will have to use this manual update to get the new cydia.

new version is a smidge faster than the old one and there where a few little ui changes

i hate the fact the older/current for me cydia overrides settings like silent keyboard and banners. So when i go to cydia i hear click click click and it messes up my banner... is this fixed in the new cydia?

No it will not. That is just how Cydia is.
