    I want to update to 4.2 for my iPad but don't want to lose my jailbreak... If I update, then jailbreak will all my stuff just work? Or do I need to reinstall all my apps and stuff?

    No, all jailbreak apps will go. Try to use AppBackup whatever to backup jailbroken apps. Next one you must do restore not update.
