Is SSH enabled by default with Cydia? Just jailbroke my phone this morning and not sure if I need to start changing root passwords or not. Thank you.

I was wondering about that too. I don't think Mobile Terminal works on iOS4.

Correct if you don't SSH there would be no reason to change the password because you or a potential hacker wont be able to because it is not enabled.

You don't have to, but I did it anyway just in case. Pretty easy.

    1) In Cydia, install OpenSSH. Respring phone.
    2) Google for PuTTY and install on your computer.
    3) Startup PuTTY. On main page, type in your IP address. Make sure "SHH" is dotted then click "Open."
    4) If this is your first time, a window will appear saying something about saving authentication key. Just click on yes.
    5) When you get to the screen that says "Login as:" type in: Root. Password: alpine.
    6) Now, it should say your iphone name. Type in: passwd. Enter new password and repeat. Once done, just exit PuTTY.
    7) If you don't want OpenSSH, go back into Cydia and remove it. Respring phone.

Read another part of a story today here at Tipb where they again reminded people to change the password for SSH. I don't even know what SSH is, but if I don't enable it, I don't need a new password correct?

Again, if you never installed it then there's nothing to change.

Mobile Terminal does work with iOS4. Use it on my JB 3G running iOS4. If you have it installed Cydia will ask if you want to change the password if it is still "Alpine". That is OpenSSH

If you don't know what it is... Be best to leave it alone... till you Educate yourself a little more...

For Mobile Terminal to work with iOS4.0 Run this deb.file...

MobileTerminal-426.deb Should be able to find it on "
