New and needs help.

Yes i'm a noob to this, i've been searching around for a while trying to figure out if i can currently jailbreak my iphone or not. I have an iphone 3gs with the old bootrom (since the the 4th and 5th numbers on my serial number are 20) that has never been jailbroken before and that's running iOS 4.0.1. Now is there a way for me to jailbreak my phone now? i read that the spirit jailbreak was coming out soon for my iOS, that redsnow can't help me since my phone was never jailbroken before and that pwnage tool can't work on my phone. SO do i have to wait or is there a possibility to JB my phone?
