Great! You could always try putting tonefxs back after the fact...I'd be curious to see if it then worked.

I jailbroke my 3GS on Friday using Sn0wbreeze (tethered).
The above mentioned hack to change the SMS ringtone did not work then!

Today I jailbroke using redsn0w. I was able to change my SMS ringtone again

So if this is not working for you, it might be the jailbrake you're using.

    I'm on 4.3.1 with Winterboard.

I tried everything the first post wanted me to do, down to the tee and I'm still not getting it to work. I tried renaming it to different caf files other than the 1st one. I'm not getting any luck whatsoever.
I tried using creating a new theme but I get this error message "No such file exists...Error Code 2...Error Code 14". My themes folder is for some reason labeled themes.myihjg.

    What do I do?

    I'm using WinSCP and OpenSSH.

While trying (and failing) to get this to work on my phone I came across this. Might be interesting to others.

Changing the SMS ringtone names in your iPhone

Now to figure out why the new tone doesn't play on the phone... It plays just fine on my PC.

Edit After a respring, it worked just great! Now my son can giggle at me whenever I get a text!

This is a million times easier on ios5 now same way as making a ringtone in iTunes but make it 2-5 secs instead of 30secs.
