Iphone 3GS software updates

I just bought a new Iphone 3GS and i will be doing a jailbreak. My question is should I stay away from updating the phone in any way as far as the new software update that is on apple's web site or will that make the Iphone unable to be jailbroken.

Will I be prompted to any of the new updates when i hook up the phone to Itunes.

There isn't a jailbreak for 3.1.3 =.=

The only way you can get a 3GS running of 3.1.3 and jailbroken is if:
1. You are already jailbroken
2. You use SnowBreeze to make a custom IPSW

But yes refrain from upgrading

If you bought the phone new, as stated, it should already be updated to 3.1.3 which is not currently jailbreakable. F0recastsn0w is a good tool to use to find out if you can jailbreak and if it will be tethered or not.

If you do have a lesser firmware version than 3.1.3, iTunes will prompt you to update however you can cancel it. That's what I do.
