Can it be jailbroken? I have windows. Will redsn0w work? Wikipedia says. Redsn0w website says it only goes to 3.1.2

Oh?

That's odd. I jailbroke and unlocked a 3g with 3.13 last night with blackRa1n, although you have to use fuzzyband to downgrade the bootloader. It worked perfectly though.

If its 5.09 then it can't be unlocked as far as I know.

on 3G, go to itunes, put phone into recovery mode by phone off, then press power button 2 sec, then also press home
button at same time for 8-10 secs, then phone shuts off, release power and hold home until itunes sees it. Hold shift down and click RESTORE
choose the right version firmware I used 3.12 even if phone was 3.13, then let itunes work. It will reboot to no OS, then run blackra1n and restart, then you can add cydia and blacksnow
restart again, should be unlocked.

d/l firmware version for your phone at blackra1n org /download/ to use with these steps

A 3G can be downgraded to 3.1.2 and jailbroken. You will NOT be able to UNLOCK it though b/c it has a new BASEBAND.

Can a 3GS be jailbroken in the same manner?
