What is a "Baseband Core Dump"?

I'm just asking because every so often - about once every 2 months or so - I'll get a very quick popup that states that reads "Baseband Core-Dump In Progress", and before I can read the rest it disappears.

I'm just curious if anyone knows what that is.

Curiosity got the best of me and I went searching for some answers. There are a lot of threads started about this issue but not many people have answered. This is the best answer I could find. Post #5 and #8 look promising even though it's referring to beta software.

Aha. Thank you my good man. Like the poster in that thread, it makes me nervous when my phone starts doing things I didn't tell it to, so thank you for the info, I appreciate it.
