The city I live in has full strength 3g and its not an issue. But one of my best friends lives about 60 minutes from here at a cabin and I virtually have no signal there. I go there alot. It goes from 1 bar/0 bars but still have usage to no service. So basically in simplest terms at his place it goes in and out of service, sitting in the same spot. If I had just a tad of signal strength I would be fine and be able to SMS and make calls.

Is there anything out there for me to make my life easier, lol

As far as apps go, I think that is impossible. Things that can give you a weak signal as well are a case for the iphone. But as far as boosting signal you can go the hardware way. powerfulsignal .com Go for the small room signal booster, since you spend a lot of time there, it would not seem as expensive an investment as I see it.
