Problem With Text Alert

I have an iPhone 2G, jailbroken using blackra1n. I don't have a data plan, but I am using AT&T...

My problem is this, sometimes when my iPhone is in standby mode, it won't wake the screen, play my text alert, or vibrate when I receive a text message. Then when I wake it up manually later, it will either instantly alert me, or it might take a few minutes of my using it before it decides to alert me. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to any of this, and I've tried restoring and rejailbreaking multiple times, to no avail. Any help would be awesome!

Have you tried to duplicate this behavior without being jailbroken? Your phone may just be on it's last leg so to speak.

Well, I don't have an iPhone plan, so that's not really an option for me. If I restored the phone, took my sim card out, and took it into the Apple store to try and get them to replace it, would they?
