Hey guys I'm new here.

I just got the iPhone 3GS 16GB a couple of days ago and was planning on jailbreaking it but the rep at the AT&T store who sold it to me said that if I decide to jailbreak they would have a way of finding out even if I restore. Is that true? I think maybe the guy was just trying to scare me.

Absolutely. He sounds like a douche.

When you restore, it pretty much erases everything. And the only way the Apple techs would be able to tell if you ha previously been jailbroken is if you drop your phone to them for repair, and they, ON THEIR OWN, decide to jailbreak your phone and look through your system files using the browser service for that tiny, miniscule data packets that prior jailbreaks leave.

Basically - it will never happen.
