- I was on 3.0, I upgraded to 3.1.2 through iTunes, then did the jailbreak with blackra1n, and it went flawlessly the first time on my 32GB 3GS. Going to watch the battery drain and all that since I did do a restore of my old settings, worst case I'll restore as new and re-jailbreak.10-12-2009 11:24 AMLike 0
- Anyone know if SMS themes work yet?
EDIT: SMS themes are a go... checking keyboards.... no go on keyboards.Last edited by BuddhistGirafe; 10-12-2009 at 11:30 AM.
10-12-2009 11:24 AMLike 0 - I am done with jailbreaking. I had my iPhone 3GS jailbroke back in the 3.0 days and I honestly can't say there is anything that would make me wanna go back. I downloaded blackra1n anyway, but I do not plan to use it. I just like not having to worry about updating and safe mode and crap like that. I like me a nice stable OS.10-12-2009 11:26 AMLike 0

- OK, just though i would post my JB experience. Once again, I am using a PC (vista) iPhone 3g (Out of the box, updated through iTunes to 3.1.2, never previously JB'd). Downloaded blackrain according to intructions. 1st attempt seemed locked on the recovery screen. Tried it again ending al iTunes related functions and processes in the background and it seemed to work. Thought all was good except I could not use any apps that were dowloaded through iTunes. Later sync'd w/ iTunes and all systems are currently go! I am loving playing around with Cydia.10-12-2009 11:36 AMLike 0

BTW, I just checked an email on my work account ( IMAP ) w/ an Excel attachment and it worked just fine.10-12-2009 11:48 AMLike 0 -
- So I have tried blackra1n on both vista and xp. Same issue happens with both. It sits in recovery mode forever, I unplug it eventually and it says that upon restart blackra1n will be available to install. It's not there. I have now done this at least 10 times, I actually had to restore the iphone a few times when using the vista computer because it locked up in the early phases of putting blackra1n on the phone.
I have done all the steps for vista (run as admin, run in xp service pack 2 compatibility, closed all itunes related processes, tried running it from desktop, C drive, D drive...everywhere)
For the love of god somebody tell me they know what I can do to fix this.10-12-2009 03:04 PMLike 0 - So I have tried blackra1n on both vista and xp. Same issue happens with both. Hmm. I never had any issues. Here is what I did.
1) update iPhone to 3.1.2
2) close all apps on computer
3) download a fresh copy of blackra1n ( in your case delete previous one)
4) close iTunes and related process
5) plug in iPhone
6) make it ra1n
give that a try10-12-2009 04:31 PMLike 0 - Hmm. I never had any issues. Here is what I did.

I googled every known process to Itunes, killed all of them, and closed every other program that was running.
My phone will either lock up in the recovery mode, and never get to the part where blackrain says it is running, or it will go through and have done nothing.
In the former case, I have to completely restore my phone. This has happened my last 3 attempts on my vista desktop. I am going to give it a couple more tries on my XP laptop, but i doubt it will work.
This is very frustrating.
Thanks for the response.10-12-2009 05:41 PMLike 0 - Got it working. Used my laptop that was on XP again...it went through the whole process, but got stuck on "running". After 10 minutes i reset my iphone with it still plugged in. After the reset, nothing was added or taken off my phone, so I run it again....poof, instantly worked.
So my advice to people that are having trouble with it freezing on "running" in the blackrain program and the ipod having the "connect to itunes", reset your ipod with it plugged in still, then run blackrain again.10-12-2009 07:03 PMLike 0 - It took me five try and it did work. Now I got the icon of Cydia and blackrain on my screen. I'm still learning what is JB and Cydia do. I anyone have information of that JB and Cydia does please explane it. Sorry I just got this Iphone couple week ago and still learning. THANKSSS10-12-2009 09:20 PMLike 0
- I love the blackra1n jb. Worked for me in 30 seconds, first attempt. The developer is to be highly praised. Nice job.
However my cydia install seems to have been corrupted. I cannot access the app at all (crashes when I try to access it). So no cydia means no appsync. Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas? Would a re-jailbreak fix the problem?10-12-2009 09:52 PMLike 0 - I JB'ed my phone with no problems what so ever. Installed Cydia and installed a few apps worked like a champ.
But then I noticed the problem. My emails stopped working correctly. Firstly, I'm using gmail via Microsoft Exchange. The emails seem to get sent, people reply to them and I can see them in my other emails, but on my iphone they just hang in my outbox. And when viewing emails being sent to me, they take forever to download. This used to be insanely quick. Any ideas?
Is anyone else having this issue? Other services seem to work fine, my AIM messages come through.10-12-2009 10:01 PMLike 0 - I JB'ed my phone with no problems what so ever. Installed Cydia and installed a few apps worked like a champ.

Edit: Toggled Gmail off through Exchange and back on through SMTP and email is fine that. Something screwy with Exchange and blackra1n I think.Last edited by pat_the_cat; 10-13-2009 at 01:12 AM.

Emails, if they go through are taking forever. I may shut Gmail off of exchange and go back to Fetch. I wonder if this is going to effect Google Calendar too?

Not saying it definitely isn't a jailbreak issue, but just my experience and opinion.10-13-2009 08:18 AMLike 0 - Google Sync for me is flaky at best, pre and post jailbreak. I think they're still working it out, as it is a brand new service.. I think it's a google problem, and has nothing to do with the jailbreak.

Just JB with blackra1n and it worked fine.
However none of my passwords seem to be saving.
Two different issues:
Yahoo:
Whenever I enter my password in the settings in authenticates, but when I open my email it says I need to enter the password. I tried deleting my account and recreating it when it tries to verify the account I get this error (Cannot Get Mail 'The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.
Gmail:
When I enter the password it does not try to verify account and does nothing
Also now whenever I get off a call it asks me to enter my voicemail password.
Internet works fine and so do the calls.... Any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated10-13-2009 06:57 PMLike 0
