Unable to Jailbreak 2G iphone 3.0.1 need help

I was using an unlocked 2G iphone for the past 1 year. Then I upgraded it by downloading 3.0.1 and it got locked. I was hoping that I will be able to unlock it. But after repeated attempt I am not successful. I tried many times to jailbreak it with redsn0w 8.0 but it does not go beyond "please wait while your phone is jailbroken" The Harddrive and arrow never shows on the screen. Can someone suggest what I might be doing wrong. Thanks......... vimit
