Jailbreak 2g problems

I've looked and looked and it seems as though I am the only one having problems jailbreaking my 2g iPhone.

Here's my set up:

xp pc
2g iPhone with non-activated sim
redsnow software from TIPB "how to guide"

go through compete process ok, stops at "waiting for reboot" screen, and then nothing...

Is it due to the inactive sim?
Also, what about the restore piece of software, is there a different file for iPhone 2g's?

Any help would be much appreciated!
