iPhone 3G 2.0 - How should I jailbreak?

Hey guys, I'm a bit of a noob and need some help. I've done some research on jailbreaking but am unsure of how to approach this. Here's what I'm working with:

I have a desktop with xp .NET 3.0
I have a laptop with vista .NET 2.0
iTunes 8.0.1.11 installed on desktop
No iTunes or any Apple software installed on the laptop
iPhone 3G 2.0 NEVER jailbroken or updated FW before
Don't care about unlocking

So here are my questions:

1) Should I jailbreak with 2.0 installed or should I update to 2.1 or 2.2 first?
2) If update is needed or recommended, should I go with 2.1, as I've read some are having problems with 2.2?
3) How do I update to 2.1 as iTunes is asking to update to the lastest 2.2 FW?

I want to jailbreak with the latest FW installed but want it to be stable. I'm really unsure as what I should do, any help is greatly appreciated.

I would update to 2.2 and then jailbreak. I am using it and it is very stable. Works like a charm.
