Why aren't my apps re-downloading?

App not re-downloading

hi guys. Here's my story. the last clash of clans update was failing, so I deleted the game to redownload it fresh. Now it wont download. Relatedly (I think) the App Store is telling me that I have an update to install. I think that the invisible update to be installed, is the Clash update and that's why it won't let me reinstall the game. Thanks for any advice.

Logout of the iTunes & App Store, reboot, log back in and then redownload the app.

Thanks for the suggestion. Everything is still the same after doing it.

I did notice something though. Even when I was logged out, the notification icon was still on the store. I think that's indicating a major bug. I will bite the bullet and hard reset.
