New Notes app and old OS

I use the Notes app across 3 devices, one running IOS8 and my MBA running Yosemite. Now that my third device is updated to IOS9 I don't understand what it is going to happen to my notes if I decide to update it since the one running IOS8 can't be upgrade it to the new Notes app yet because it's my company iPad and El Captain is not out yet. What happens if I hit the upgrade to new Notes on my phone only? Will I loose the ability to sync with the other two devices running old OS?

Okay, but what's the deal? If I upgrade my notes on the iPhone what will happen to the rest?

I upgraded the Notes app on my iPhone prior to installing El Capitan Beta. All of my Notes were available on both devices. They appeared the old way on the computer and the new way on the phone, but they stayed in sync. Could it have been a fluke? Sure, but I can't say. I'm currently running both El Capitan GM and iOS 9.1 Beta 1.
