I have a 128GB iPhone 6, but I got 1.3GB of space back after the iOS 9 upgrade! I assume it's the app thinning, I have a lot of apps (not as many as some but probably 100 or so)

Actually if I remember correctly 8.4.1 took up 4.8GB while iOS9 is said to be 1.3GB. That's one of the reasons it's said devices going back to 4S will gain speed. Also one reason for the so called "extra hour of battery life". Just ONE reason.

iOS 8 took 4.8 gb for download. It was later fixed due to complaints. I don't think it had anything to do with the performance of older devices. Other factors did that.

Not much changed on my iP 5. I still have 12.5 gb capacity with about the same gb available. Maybe just the newer phones.

You accentuated just fine. My point was that it wasn't ONE of the reasons.

You've misread from the onset. I'm not saying that any device ever was slow or had any problems at all.

I'm saying almost the opposite. I'm saying regardless of speed and battery, "one of the reasons all devices from 4s thru 6 will gain some speed and battery boost is iOS9 being much smaller".

It was said in the context of improvement across the board, one factor being the OS size, that was all. The Keynote stated it clearly. Of course recognize its not size alone but many other factors.

Btw, with all the complaints flying...it's a bit ridiculous to be challenging each other on "why it's better"...I'm just happy I've never had an issue and things continue to improve on top of that. And this is coming from a life-long BlackBerry user who uses both and loves both.

It basically has to do with how they calculate the storage.
In "marketing terms" (product packaging, etc) 1GB = 1 billion bytes
In actual computing (what your phone shows) 1GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes

So in marketing terms, 64x1 billion = 64 GB
In actuality, 64,000,000,000 (bytes) / 1,073,741,824 (bytes per gb) = 59.61 GB

After installation, you will have some number less than 59.61 GB.
