I use restrictions to disable the App Store on my sons iPhone. I don't want him to have access to everything in the App Store so when he wants something I have to remove the restriction, install the app, and then reapply the restriction. The new Family Sharing feature of iOS 8 has a function that will let my son ask for permission each time he wants to install an app. I thought this would be ideal solution that will allow me to ease the restrictions on his phone. This is what I am finding as I test the new feature:

At one time I allowed my son to have Instagram. Since it is in his app history he does not need to ask for permission to download the app. Also, any app I have on my phone, no matter how inappropriate that app may be, he can download without asking for permission. Are there any solutions to this? Is there a way to permanently delete the app purchase history? At one time I did approve of Instagram, but I have changed my mind about the appropriateness of the app. There should be a way to require the parent to grant permission for apps, even if they were previously approved. Parents do change their mind on what they deem is appropriate on their kids iPhone. Any suggestions?

Don't think you can stop him from downloading apps that you already have that is the point of the sharing. As far as the restrictions with asking, this is for new purchases. The only way to stop him is not to share your stuff with him as far as I know.

You can hide stuff in your purchase history, so with Family Sharing that app would not be available. But if Instagram was purchased with his own I'd, I don't know of a way to prevent it from being reinstalled.

Thanks for the replies. I wish there was a way to request permission to re-purchase an app. I am sure there are many parents that initially allowed an app and then after some time reconsidered their decision after spending more time with the app. Instagram is an app I originally thought was harmless but I have since changed my mind after seeing how easy it is to search for porn. Apple should disclose that once a parent grants permission to an app their decision is irrevocable because that app will forever be tied to the purchase history of the Apple ID. Apps like Instagram should revise their content rating from age 12+ to 17+ but that is an entirely separate issue.

Can't you turn on Parental Restrictions for that? I know there is a setting for installing apps. Yes maybe not ideal because you have to turn it off, make the purchase/download and then turn restrictions back on, but it does give you control over apps that are installed.

There is a parental control setting for apps by rating. That is the only option I think of.

As mentioned above you can hide the purchase in the history. But if you go to the app directly you can still download it again for free.

You can't search for porn on Instargram as far as I'm aware I've just tried it while writing this comment, as you can only search users & hashtags in instagram. You're probably thinking of google (Search/Now/Chrome) & Safari as they allow you to search the entire internet.

This statement is wrong. A hashtag is the way to search on Instagram. Instagram is infested with pornographic images. Unfortunately I have seen it hundreds of times on my sons iPhone and that is why I have taken steps so that he can no longer access the app. Most boys that want to find porn know exactly what hashtag searches will trigger the pornographic images they are searching for.

I must be doing the internet wrong.

Instagram continually filters out hashtags that lead to porn.

How do you hide apps in the purchased history? I don't see that option.
    Never Mind! I misunderstood.

Same here, I know how to search out most stuff, even really obscure stuff. Searching for porn on instagram continually filters out hashtags that lead to porn as well.
