I haven't noticed any problems except when I go from 3G to 4g.
What happens is when I'm in a 3G area my phone displays correct time but in 4g area it puts me in central time zone. I'm in eastern.
Could be a carrier problem.
I'm on sprint in eastern tennessee and have the iphone5.

Are you near the timezone boundary? It's also possible that Sprint has a networking device on their network involved with setting timezones for user's devices that's misconfigured... you may need to go into settings and turn off automatic time settings.
