We don't mind jailbreaking. That's a whole different issue. And we don't really mind people loading the beta who have no right to load it (it's on them, after all if their phones brick, or if Apple find out who was responsible). What irks us is that the majority of people loading the beta without being devs or working with devs don't seem to understand what a beta is or is for, and their whining about inconsequential things makes us want them to switch to Android!

Some of the comments I've read over the last few days make me want to grab the poster by the collar, shake them, and ask them how many times their mammas dropped them as infants. It's akin to a 1st grader sitting in an organic chemistry class. Yea, it's exciting, and you see some neat stuff, but comprehension? None.

Jailbreaking is not illegal nor is it an actionable item from a legal perspective. Apple won’t help you, but they can’t prevent it. The beta release software is governed by legal documents (EULA and NDA) that restrict its usage and/or disclosure about its content and function. Breaking those agreements IS legally actionable.

But as Alli said, if you aren’t legit, or break the rules (or your device), it’s on you.

You're a brave man. I won't Install it unless I see significant changes for the better, because there's likely no way back once you upgrade.

Unless ios7 gets jailbroken, which it might not be for awhile if ever.
I'm sure iOS 7 will get jailbroken. Once it actually comes out in the fall. I am just going to keep my phone with iOS 6. If I had another device to test the beta on, I would. But I don't feel like messing up my only phone.

There are some great side by sides comparison shots here New in iOS 7 For iPad, iPhone + iPod touch: Details + Screens | iLounge Article it's just not my cup of tea.

Gotta say i prefer the black player to white. sue me. I wish they'd get rid of those create, repeat and shuffle buttons because i never use them and my big fingers always hit them on accident.

Just not a big fan of the circle buttons and the whole. It's like a toddler drawing to me. But whatever. I rarely make phone calls with the dialer anyways.

Safari, i'm fine with. didn't much care for it before. I used Chrome. This may bring me back.

I like it but notices it's basically the Yahoo weather app which i currently use. Even the symbols for sun, cloudy etc are the same. But i'm cool with it.

Icons look horrible to me. Genrally i prefer them with the edge. They remind me of Android launch icons Someone tell me what is that photo icon. How does that say photo? The old one sucked too. But how about maybe a picture of a photograph or a polaroid? Seems logical to me. Gamecenter? Looks like a bunch of bubbles. I don't get it. At least the camera icon is better in this version. But just aesthetically this, to my tastes doesn't look nice and classy.

I'm surprised the app store seems unchanged. I hope they address that in the future because it's cumbersome to use when you're results show just 4 or 5 images a page. That deters me from browsing and discovering new apps not on the front page.

No issue with the new folders but i don't get the look of the icons. Is the new contact icon really nicer than the old? They just look, as my dad would say "half-assed." As in, "Boy you did a half-assed job mowing the lawn now do it right before i beat your ****."

I don't care about note cause i use Catch but i prefer the darker keyboards. To me i looks much more polished with the shadowing. Reminds me of when i had a webos phone and Preware had all these ugly digital keyboards you could ad. Most looked bad.

This looks to me like they didn't have time to finish.

Monochrome i get but to me, the old version just looks better. The clocks on the right look like bad clip art to me

It's not all bad. I like some new features like the toggles, additions to safari, etc. Some things above i don't specifically care much about like notes, or calculator or compass cause i'm never gonna use them. I just think they are bad style choices. But i'll see the keyboard everyday. Icons i see everyday. I'll hate the white music player all day everyday. For me I've yet to decide if i'll continue with Apple. Looks matter to me. It's a huge part of why i like apple products. I'm not utilitarian totally. In fact i was gonna buy the first android device till i saw Android and found the original ugly (nicer now) and the ugly chinned htc device. But the big thing for me is the Music player. i listen to music every day. I've got a 64gb player and don't use itunes match. it's varied in genre and it's stored on hard drives by genre. So i just pray they still organize music the same, as when i click on genre i want it to go to artist then album and not as my old pre did go directly to song and give me a list of 8000k songs to sift through. especially since many times i don't know the exact song name i just know the album it's on because that's how i first listened to them. So interface changes and dislikes aside i hope they don't muck up the music player or make it cumbersome to navigate by genre. That's one of my pet peeves.

You forgot the lockscreen. That's one of the biggest failures. The similarity to Android, and the slide to unlock that looks like you have to swipe up. Jeez...

I've looked at a lot of pictures of iOS 7 screen shots and icons. I really prefer the bolder, sharper look of iOS 6. It just looks to thin and too light. Maybe it will grow on me. I hope so.

Since the greatest area of contention has been the icons, if apple kept the old icons, would people be more accepting of the changes in iOS 7?

I have been running b1 since the day it was up on the dev portal. After test driving it for a week, I thought I would share my .02c.

I ( not unlike tons of others) was turned off when i first saw it running on my phone. My first thought was "OMG, this looks like my six year old designed it". After using though, i quickly began to like the new look. Yes, it's a shocking contrast (see what i did there?) to the previous look, but the new look combined with the transparencies and animations works well. People are hating on the new icons, but other than the Game Center bubbles, i like them. Take the photos icon for example. I think the new icon with the colored photo filters works better than the previous sunflower.

This is the first build of an OS that was obviously rushed to get out for WWDC, so it will change...possibly drastically, before the GM.
Overall i love it. I think its far better than the previous iOS versions. If they add actionable notifications such as message quick reply (like BiteSMS), it will negate any reason to jailbreak for a large number of people, myself included.

People demanded change, we now have change. Lets enjoy it!

If you mean me i didn't forget it. I just thought i'd gotten the point across and cutting and pasting those image links was a pain and i got tired. But the images were a taste but not exhaustive of my ALL the areas i dislike. I will say. I've no problem with the lock screen. That said i honestly did think you have to "swipe up" to unlock lol. You don't? whups! Well if that's the case it seems another logical failure i guess. But the look of it i'm ok with mostly because if i bought it the background would change.

who knows? It wouldn't hurt but for me it's more than icons that i dislike. I generally dislike the flat white androidish windowsish look. But i think looking for a silver bullet one fix solution misses the point. At least from my perspective. I'm just not a fan of all the white top bars that are everywhere. the whitish keyboard. I'm not a fan of the pencil drawn look of things like the dialer. Regarding icons, It's not a case of old or new for me. I simply don't think it's better or looks nicer. I think the flat icons look bad. I think they need dimension and edges. But as stated above i think some just don't make sense like the photos icon. What's that supposed to be? But look, better icons wouldn't hurt. And my opinions are mine alone. I'm not freaking out like some are. It's not the end of the world and if i don't like it i can just get a different phone and vote with my wallet so to speak. But that's my two cents. Long way of saying it may help but it's not my only issue.

People demanded change, we now have change. Lets enjoy it!
Many did. I wasn't one of them though. This is my first iphone so i was pretty happy with the look i bough into. I wasn't demanding change and definitely didn't want this change. But to each his own. We'll see how it goes. They surely aren't listening to me or they'd have added simple folder monitoring to itunes on windows like 8 years ago.

Overall though, I was happy with what I saw, and feel it will be a nice improvement from 6 in many ways.

I agree I was looking for actionable notifications like they gave Mavericks. I may be in the minority but I do like ios 7. I think all the things they put in I will use often. And I do like the icons and such. It's a refreshing change after 6 years of the same

My biggest issue with iOS7, as it stands now, is its overall inconsistency. That is an odd thing to say, I know, since the "skeuomorphic" look made apps inconsistent too, but the iOS6 skeuomorphic design had its own style of consistency. It attempted to make apps appear like real-world counter parts. Oddly enough, I liked the look of GameCenter, but I am also a person who enjoys going to the local casinos every so often, so GameCenter reminded me of the craps table, or even a pool table at the local bar.

Skeuomorphic design gave everything a focal point, a hook, a center. This new design doesnt have that same center, that same focal point. Everything seems like they were individually made by different people, then thrown together at the last minute. Even the new Folder design is a huge waste of space on the screen, cutting down the number of visible icons to 9 instead of 12. True, you can page thru them and have paged-folders, but things like FolderEnhancer for Jailbreakers have done a far better job with that.

I would have liked to see iOS7 fall more in line with the Apple hardware. keep in mind that the pin-stripes of the Settings app matched up the PowerPC generation of iMac and PowerMac lines, even though there were many years between those systems and the iPhone.

What we have with iOS7 as it stands now is such a downgrade in look and feel, and it just doesn't match up with anything that Apple has done in the past, except maybe the "Flower Power" and "Blue Dalmatian" iMac models.

I really hope the jailbreak community gets iOS7 opened up soon after its release so I can re-theme it back to iOS6 style icons. Its sad, because iOS7 has almost everything else that I jailbroke for (live clock, control center with toggles and brightness slider, lock screen notification panel, parallax wallpaper), but I still will want to jailbreak just to re-theme it, something that I never liked doing currently and previously.

The more I look at the iOS7 icons, the more I see poor design and artistic style. Its just not something I want to use day to day, not something I want to look at. But then again, I am one of the people who likes skeuomorphic icons.

Quite surprised by the reaction people are having to the UI (ignoring the icons for a moment).

For me everything is flowing so much better. Gestures are incredible and a welcome addition. The text on white is so crisp I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner.

    Overall I really like it.

I, like you, feel that iOS 7 is incredible and I like the new translucent, white backdrop and overlays even on the black iPhone. But, you can't ignore the icons as the home screen plays such a huge role on a device.

I have hope that they will sort it out prior to release.

The icons are very dependent on the Wallpaper thats chosen though. Using the "Galaxy" wallpaper, they don't look bad at all where as a more pinky background it makes the icons standout more.

    I personally love the icons.
