The below statement by Rene says it all:

"Six years into the mobile revolution iOS started and we're still stuck at the gates when it comes to file handling on iPhone and iPad."

Hopefully, iOS 7 will bring a much needed easier file handling.

    This line is great:

"Apple doesn't seem to think iOS needs a filesystem either, but they haven't yet provided what's needed to make filesystems obsolete."

Apple is good at figuring out what will become obsolete, and making it happen by removing it, such as the DVD drive. However, Apple usually makes sure it will no longer be missed, whether because the industry has moved on, or by providing a replacement. The above line indicates how that hasn't happened in this case.
