iPhone contact photo appearance issue

Why is it that during a phone call some contact pics take up the whole screen and some only appear as a small thumbnail in the upper right hand corner?

This is usually due to how a contact photo is added/synced?if you use something like Gmail to sync contacts, it downgrades the image quality during the sync, which results in the thumbnail being used.

Hmm...I used to use Gmail contacts a year or so ago. Now I've been using iCloud contacts. I prefer the small thumbnails, the large photos just get covered up by phone call options screen.
