After all these years I've finally decided to start using folders for apps. Things like Photography, Entertainment, etc.

I do wish Apple gave the option to have applications in alphabetical order in said folders automatically, versus manually.

In addition, when one opens an app from a folder, said folder should automatically close.

What say you?

I agree on both counts. I group mine by their category in the App Store by the way.

I'm the same way. On page one, my 1st row of apps at top are in alpha order & my apps and folders on the dock are in alpha order. Now the apps in the folders are in alpha order as well now.
Page 2 is all folders in alpha order with apps within them in alpha order as well. :)

I leave the 1st page set up like it is out of the box then add all downloaded apps/folders to page 2.

I have only two home screens. Been using folders since Apple made it
part of the OS in iOS 4. Alphabetical order would be nice. Doesn't bother me
though.

Yeah as there typically aren't more than 5 apps in a folder. I only have about 40 apps downloaded.

I would love this. I did have a jb tweak called folderenhancer for the autoclosing.

Being anal (or OCD), you'd think I'd have gotten into the whole folder thing in a big way, but I still mostly use the individual screens as the categories, i.e -

Home Page - Daily viewables (Reminders, Messages, Google Maps, Poynt, Jotter, Facebook, Fantasical, Camera+, Atomic Browser, etc)
2nd Page - Work stuff (Calculator, Notes, Daily Cost, Dropbox, CloudOn, Translate, Carpenter, Splashtop, etc)
3rd Page - News
4th Page - Photos, Video, Streaming TV, iBooks, Kobo, etc
5th Page - Games
5th Page - Misc (Banking apps, SoundHound, iTunes, App Store, etc)

I know I could put all these individual pages into folders, but whether I tap to open a folder or flick to open a page doesn't seem to be a big difference.

However, there is one folder I do have without issue and it's becoming a full one. Its called Junk Drawer and it consists of Stocks, Game Center, Safari, Weather, Camera, Passbook, Maps - and would, if I could, include Newsstand. All Apple apps we can't get rid of. Go figure.

That's another smart organized way to do it too!

Interesting. I might bloody have to do this, too.
