This is definitely new behavior to me: if I search for something and am not happy with the first results, I can no longer edit the text in the search box at the top the Google results page. (I can still edit it in the box at the bottom of the page, oddly enough, and I can also still edit it in the built-in iOS search bar.) If I click in the box at the top of the page, the cursor is placed at the end of the text--I can then delete letters or just use the X to delete the whole string, but I can no longer place the cursor in the middle of the search terms.

Can anyone else confirm this on their device?

(UPDATE: It seems that I actually can do it, but only if I hit the exact right area of the screen, sort of in between the search box and the "Web | Images | Places | etc" toolbar on the Google page. It's a really small target, but it does work if you hit it. Hope that helps anyone having the same issue.)
