Unable to delete emails on iphone 4s

All of a sudden I have no option to delete any emails for any of my accounts on my iPhone 4s. There is an option to 'edit' emails within an email account but once I click on a particular email, a check is marked next to it but no way to do anything after that. Only 'cancel' which cancels the action of clicking the email. Any ideas on what's going on here? I updated to ios6 a week ago but this change happened 2 days ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
