This thread makes my brain cry.

I'll take a stab at it anyway... I think it is being suggested that an app that uses dark colors will consume less battery than bright colors. I highly doubt that would make more than a few scant millivolts in battery drain rate.

I agree though, using black wouldn't yield enough of a savings to do it just for that...

This was actually the whole idea behind blackle.com (aka Black Google). Check it out: About Blackle - Energy Saving Search

But it wouldn't make a difference on the iPhone scale of course.

Assuming this person is coming from an AMOLED android device AND they are unaware of the differences in screen tech, is this such a ridiculous question? Back when I had the OG galaxyS I would see significantly better battery life when using black wallpaper.

In a way, its a legit question. Black pixels take less energy to power than white pixels. Although, I don't believe it to be the case, as it seems more like a design change than a technical change.

i'd be more willing to listen if there were an empirical study done with iPhones regarding this. otherwise they are just words

A drain rate difference in a few millivolts can be physically measured, but will be imperceptible to the end user.
