What does notification center actually show?

I upgraded to ios5 last night and Notification Center does not seem to be working correctly. I can pull down from the home screen and see weather and calendar. But there is nothing on my lock screen. I have double checked all of the settings in notifications that they show up on the lockscreen, but does not seem to help. Any ideas?

If the lock screen notifications are on in your settings, i think the lock screen only gets new notifications, like new emails or texts.

I think and stand to be corrected on this

Lockscreen will only show notifictions (that have been set up under the notifications settings menu) received whilst the phone is asleep.

If you receive an email whilst the phone is awake it will not appear on the lockscreen.
