Dismiss lockscreen Notification

Is there any way to dismiss a lockscreen notification? It seems like you have to unlock the screen, then relock it. I get a text "k" and I have to unlock then relock to make it go away.

any thoughts?

If hit the lock button it will make the notification smaller and move it below the clock but I don't think you can dismiss it without unlocking your phone.

You swipe to the right and it will open the application.

Yea I don't want to open it, just get rid of it. I get a bunch of words with friends notifications. I just want to close them.
