I have read several times that keeping electronics (especially phones and tablets) at 100% charged can damage them. Maybe that's why?

You might want to consider checking in your settings to see if "Optimized Battery Charging" is toggled on. For anyone who needs to check this, go to Settings>Battery>Battery Health>Optimized Battery Charging. If the toggle is white, tap it to turn it on. When it's on, the toggle should be green.

I do not see that setting. Here is what I see.

I think optimized charging is hardware related. My 9.7 IPP doesn’t have it either. I know the 7 Plus had it but unsure of earlier devices.

Optimised Charging and Battery Health are iPhone only features. The OP is using an iPad and they are not present on those.

That really only applies to laptops, when they are run for weeks/months at a time while plugged in.

Phones and tablets are used on battery all the time. Charged to 100% then used all day long is not an issue. It is 100% for a couple hours at best.
