I realize there is no right or wrong answer here, I am just looking for opinions. I also realize that many (if not most) people here will have Apples - not PC's.

I recently purchased a new motherboard, processor, video card, and memory for my computer. I am now running a AMD Athlon Phenom X2 Kuma processor with 4 GB of memory. However, I am still running Windows XP (Pro version). I was wondering if it is worthwhile to upgrade to the 64Bit Version of Vista Ultimate (which I have through my work, so cost is not a factor).

I know I am not getting full use of my memory (or the dual core processors?) using Windows XP Pro. But I have been happy with Windows XP Pro, and I know if I want to upgrade I need to do a clean install (and the headache that comes with reinstalling everything).

So what do you think - is Vista Ultimate 64 bit worth the hassle and headache, or should I just stick with XP (until Windows 7 comes out, or something like that).

I guess it depends. I like Vista...and I know that I am in the minority in that regard. It sounds like the specs you have will run Vista nicely. I would say update.

Windows 7 does look impressive so far. I've been playing with the beta and it looks like a solid update.

I just got an HP laptop with Vista and I'm running 8GB of ram and I'm very happy with it. This is the first PC I've used with Vista that I like, but it's also the first one with more than 2GB of ram...it makes all the difference.

I'm also running 64 bit too, but I needed to buy something right now, if I could have waited I would have been tempted to wait for 7 to come out.
