A refurbished iPhone X starts at $769 directly from Apple.

Taking off the $300 mentioned in the article, the iPhone X would cost $600.

A new iPhone XR starts at $749

Me, as in “Just Me, D”, would rather buy a new XR.

Still, if you’re specifically looking for an iPhone X, saving $300 would be the way to go, in my opinion.
