Samsung continues to devote an embarrassingly large amount of their advertising not to their own products but to Apple's. In Samsung's latest ad, they pretty much admit they were the manufacturing equivalent of the stereotypical "FIRST!" message board commenter, releasing the super-sized Galaxy Note phablet before they, it, and the market were ready. They then make fun of their own product, highlighting quips like "you look like you're talking into a piece of toast", and "the note is an unwieldy beast", before diving head-first into the notion that Apple is imitating them by releasing the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. So what's really going on here?

It's a tactic used when you're trying to garner more attention to the brand than to the products themselves...Apple did it back in the early/mid 00's with the "Mac vs. PC" commercials. Samsung sells a fine product, but they know who controls the top tier smart phone market...so instead of comparing and contrasting things that most consumers don't care about, shock value marketing gains more attention to their stuff. People think "Is this true?" and then they actually might consider a Note 4...where as without such a sensationalistic marketing style, people wouldn't even pay attention.

Apple makes some great products, but if they are marketing geniuses...something Samsung is well aware of. Apple makes you feel like the products will make your life better...Samsung usually just screams "Hey! We're here too ya know!?"

"Apple could care less if they're first-to-market with a new category of device. They simply want to make sure that, when they do go to market, it's with what they consider to be the very best device in its category." - Rene

    Excellent point

Apple is getting free advertising on Samsung's dime! 2nd market mover......Kmart was first....then Walmart came out and did what Kmart was doing but did it better. Kmart died.

Apple has a bigger screen now and doing it better!

Samsung's product line up pre-iPhone looked like bad Blackberry clones... Anyone remember the "Blackjack" phone Samsung made? And Samsung has the audacity to accuse any other company of "copy catting"? It's friggin' unreal...
