The big Microsoft Office for iPad news is that it's here today and that it's completely free to download. But to use the full featureset you'll be required to have an Office 365 subscription which at present costs $120 a year, or $80 if you're a student.

This is huge news for Apple and the Enterprise market. This gives organizations no reason to not choose iPad for business.

Well I downloaded and while it looks like a decent app the subscription aspect is a major fail for me. It's not worth 100 a year when I can do the same with pages app that I got for 10 bucks and or free.
Yes you can use as a viewer app but my ipad views doc just fine without word.
    Seems just greedy to me
Another thing it does not support Dropbox or any other cloud service beside Microsoft.

IMO a major disappoint for me for such a long awaited app

Pages and Numbers and Keynote are of little help when you need to collaborate with others and they all use Office.

Numbers doesn't even support macros - so I can't use half of Excel based tools we use daily.

It's good news for whomever already has Office 360, but if I had to chose between spending $120 a year on an Office subscription, or spending extra $450 on Surface Pro 2 and load the Office 2010 I already have, or the free Open Office that supports some macros, I know what I'd do.
