Hey folks,

We post all kinds of content for all kinds of readers. What we need to make sure we do is keep things that won't appeal to the general audience separate, of only those actively seeking it out will find it.

We've made some changes to make sure that, if we ever post about stuff like this in the future, there's no way anyone who doesn't want to see it will see it.

We do want to make sure that no majority, even vocal, prevents us from covering politics, religion, culture, or other things simply because they disagree with them or are different, but we do want to make sure nothing inappropriate for the wide audience gets shoved in front of them.

Apologies if we offended anyone, that was never our intent. And thank you for you feedback. That's what lets us make sure that every day we get better than the one before!

I also regret we don't get similar outrage when we post links to horror movies, Game of Thrones, or violent video games. I can't watch any of that stuff (literally makes me ill), but as a society we seem absolutely okay with it. (I don't in any way mean to equate any of those things with porn, but I do think many of our cultures are way more accepting of violence than they are of sex.)
I cannot rebut any of this either Rene for fear of several things. My personal opinion on what i might say in my roll as an Ambassador on iMore and a member for a long time. I do however have the right to say the first part of your response was to defend it, The second part of your response was because there I'm not saying we wouldn't cover Game of Thrones or violent games or whatever — we do even though I personally don't like them — but I do kinda regret we don't get blasted for that too.

I do however have the right to say the first part of your response was to defend it, The second part of your response was because there are many people who support this site both members and volunteers that keep this and the rest of Mobile nations the place it is and the majority of us just expect better than this type of thread.
This is the only reason I am replying now because it took me this long to think about seeing if you would respond, read what others had to say and then make my comments.

How can you take a screenshot on an iPhone or Porn and I am very liberal when it comes to certain things but everyone is right when they say YOU as the representative of iMore would take the responsibility on what happened here. Nobody is saying take it down - Well maybe some and you certainly cannot compare this to Game Of Thrones? That makes you sick but this does not. I am not hating on anyone or you but I have the right to my opinion w/o reprisal at least I hope because this forum means a lot to me not to mention the many friends.
I have bombarded with iMessages and PMs to where I cannot take anymore with friends asking my opinion.

My opinion is that iMore made a mistake this time - Own up to it leave it alone and place a disclaimer on the thread that if you elect to continue to read this, You are reading at your own risk as this contains material not suitable to our minors that come on here. I think that would sooth many peoples feelings as the ones that has the guts to speak frankly did and people like me spoke lightly because I am a volunteer here and wish to remain that way.

Whoever decided to put this up needs to just admit without a disclaimer it was in poor taste and there are many more people (Members) that are second guessing staying on. Please read this with the respect I have for you, Your judgement and management and make no mistake about it that I am not tearing into anyone or anything in particular but there really is no explaining the difference between Porn and Game Of Thrones!! Thank you for allowing me my fair time to chime in. :)

Well now who do you personally in your own opinion gave the green light to spitballing the ideas of articles to be written and when this came up, Who again I am asking you do you suppose gave the Green Light and Signed Off on this to be written especially knowing the sensitivity of material with no disclaimer? Is this not why we have guides for everything from Developers and the proper vway to post their apps and how they must conform, The guide on what you must do in the Marketplace before you can sell something and the criteria you must meet and the basic rules and regs of the forms rules?

What is the Difference here? is it because it had iMore logo on it and a staffer got the green light to move forward with it and now look where we ar. All I can say to you speedygi is WOW!!

From his flowing "in your face" defence and feigned "disgust" over themes of violent movies and television, I’d lay this whole mess at the feet of Rene Ritchie. He may not be the "owner", but he’s the face of iMore.

I’m no regular around here, but seems like an easy call to me.

I would imagine a site that's been around as long as iMore would have a system in place that prevents registered members who are younger then 18 to view these types of threads.

Even if they did, more than likely it would be based on the honor system.

I don't think it was "feigned" disgust over themes of violent TV and movies because I feel the same way. Humanity would die off in one generation with no sex. Humanity would be much better off if there was no violence against other people or animals.
Is some porn disgusting and exploitative? Yes. But plenty of people enjoy watching extremely violent shows which I find pretty disgusting and exploitative of the actors and actresses involved as well.
When I comes to my kids, I have more concern over them being exposed to violence rather than sex. Of course, at 6 and 10, I'm not talking about porn but other violent or overt sexuality on TV or the movies. If my 10 year old daughter wanted to see a specific PG-13 or R rated movie I would be more likely to refuse an extremely violent movie than a movie with nudity and sex. Of course I would be reviewing the movie first before she saw it and not just allowing it, and discussing the implications of the movie as compared to real life regardless of whether the subject was sex or violence.

Is there not a world of difference between "porn" and "nudity and sex" in a movie rated PG-13 or R?

Listen, for years, TiPb / iMore has been viewed as "family friendly", and members have done an outstanding job reporting things that were in contrast to the "family friendly" image, including porn. Some people don't find anything wrong with porn, and that's okay. Personally, I could care less about it, however, some people who are trying to live their lives as cleanly as possible, especially those struggling with an addiction to it, may take offense. It's easy to say to those people, " get over it", "sex is everywhere" or "kids are already exposed to it", but some of those same people get upset and offended when religion and politics are the subject matter, and demand that the moderators close the thread. Having said that, I'm not disputing the right of iMore to post blogs entries and create threads pertaining to porn. I am, however, questioning whether or not it will affect the "family friendly" image associated with iMore. As for the thread title and blog entry, "How to watch porn for free on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV", I think it was unnecessary because those who watch porn probably already know how to watch it on their devices, and those who didn't would have more than likely found out how on their own.

That is one thing I have noticed. Certain people want Moderators to close this thread but the bottom line like Karen and many others have expressed, Everyone is entitled to their opinion like it or not and with the exception of a few, This thread has not gotten out of hand and has stayed on topic with very little from the Mods. I would applaud many of the ones who want their viewpoint heard and did a good job bringing it out.

Honestly the thing I find weird the most is that we are not allowed to use foul language on iMore but apparently its ok to tell people where to find free porn. I'm someone who has no problems with porn, language, violence, ect. But if you are gonna advertise this site as "family oriented" then you should stick to your guns 100% and not post a thread that completely contradicts yourself. I never would have expected seeing a thread like this on this forum, and I think that's why this thread has gotten an overall negative response from the members here.

Well kids do frequent this site and now they have instruction in how to access porn on their iPhone.
Now they probably can find it on their own and probably have but don't show them the way.

I'm not a prude. If your 18 you can vote, die for your country and be a porn star. But some here aren't 18.

I know most porn sites are constantly getting taken down notices for copyright infringement.

If someone were to post a site where you could download free Mac software that would be frowned upon. This is kinda the same deal.
You can't download it into your iPhone but you can from a computer. Some porn is copyrighted content just like software.

So I believe if you show someone how to get porn for free. Show them how to get software for free.

To me this is like building a bomb. It's out there but do we really want to show everyone how to build it.

Say my son comes here looking for help with his phone. No intention of looking for porn because this is a family site and normal people don't come here looking for that. Well now that is on his mind because he came across it in the forum.

And no he isn't 18 and there is no chance in the world he would lie about his age to get on the net, sarcasm.

In the end for me this is just something I would rather not see on iMore.

I'm not going to throw a hissy fit or leave the site it's just how I feel.

I have to date received in just emails alone no less the 6 so far that long standing members which everyone who has posted in this thread know very well have said to me Adios my friend but that was my last post and will never be back. Although I was upset to see good friends I have met here leave because of this, I have to respect their reason and freedom of choice for leaving. My only comment was they won and we all lost by losing members. I would however honor their reasons and them essentially telling me goodbye and I asked them to stay in touch.

I think this entire thing - This thread has touched many people in many different ways and there is no right or wrong here when you lose good members that made a difference by being here and I will miss them.
Of course I know we have not heard from Rene since page 1 and his 2 replies, i know he is monitoring this thread and reading responses and I know he is a good man that I think would suit many people with the possibility of and open letter to the members and anyone else here that have joined iMore, That has made a difference by the help they have provided and the interaction they have every day they log in to interact. I think an "Open Letter" on the Blog and Forum to all in whatever he would like to say to set things in a manner that everyone can understand how this started and why and to admit seeing the effect it took on people good and bad.

As the leader of iMore there is no shame and only a stronger respect more than we already have from the leader of the place this all started would go IMO a very long way to put this to rest and put out the fire or Rene with all due respect, We can keep the embers burning or like I said - Put them out and the sooner the better. I don't want to see anymore of my friends leave and I am not going to defend it anymore. My stand is that I am an adult way over the age of 18 that can make my choice, I have and it makes no difference to me on the subject right up to the point where me, Where iMore starts loosing good members. It is time to stop it and put an iffy choice of article with a 1000 different reasons and rationale to bring it to a stop. I thank you for listening Rene, My manner on how I feel about you and iMore will not change one bit no matter what you choose to do - Do the right thing, Set it to rest and this will become a thing of the past real quick. Have a great weekend to everyone single person who made their stance known.

No grip to get here. Sites with lower standards are a dime a dozen. I felt as though we had a higher standard here at I more. Great thing about being in America at least for me we have the freedom of choice.

I actually have not seen anyone cracking directly on any Moderator. It is mainly the Article, The Title and the Content that people are having a hard time dealing with and it is the right to do as they personally see fit.

Yes but mods are getting the heat to remove it and rightfully so. I was more a less just reminding everyone that you guys are doing your best to resolve the heat and get past this as you have just done in your direct message to Rene. Which was well written I might add
