    Sprint Corp. is researching the possibility of merging with T-Mobile USA. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, whose company owns more than 80 percent of Sprint, is pushing for the deal, according to the Wall Street Journal (available to subscribers only).

    Don't see this happening. GSM & CDMA not a good mix. Would have to move all customers to one or the other. Too much if a nightmare scenerio

    For 3G speeds that's true. But as carriers start to deploy voice over LTE, the legacy CDMA and gsm service will not be needed (as much at least). Eventually that spectrum used for gsm and CDMA will be "re-farmed" to LTE on all the carriers. So maybe Sprint sees a big benefit in being able to combine their and tmobile's LTE bandwidths or they are anticipating the demise and repurposing of the gsm and CDMA spectrum. Just speculating though.
