QI was nice when I had my IPhone 11 but MagSafe with my 14 PM is so much better. Imho MagSafe is one of the very best features to come to iPhone 12 and above. So imho it does make perfect sense for it to be the standard. But no way Apple can make high commissions on the standard. As Tartarus mentioned, competitors will find a way around it. And For wireless power consortium to go with Apple’s MagSafe, Apple must have committed to small commissions, something like 10 cents or under per device (which is still a lot of money).
One item not spoken of is how some Android fits it in. Because Apple uses custom parts made precisely for the os (optimization), they can put in a smaller battery, thermals are a bit easier. The alignment of MagSafe magnets may require a bit of room and/or slight design change up on some Androids.
