Not surprised at all. Google (and Apple and Samsung etc) put money and resources into profitable to thriving divisions and/or divisions that show a clear path to profitability (think Xbox and Microsoft's big losses in the beginning before massively profiting). Google is not putting big resources into hardware as much as they do their best to copy Apple and -- gasp!

-- Samsung. But in reality Google is at best only a semi serious phone hardware maker. Now Google did buy Motorola but it was not to expand their ability in mobile phones, it was a shot across the bow of Samsung's attempt to make their own mobile OS. That frightened Google. But Samsung dropped it then "Google bought Motorola for $12.5B, sold it for $2.9B". That huge loss was primarily about Samsung.
But Google does have a major Pixel success, their YT channels do love the Pixel. Best! Phone! Eva! several years now
