This definitely isn't surprising... in fact, had I given it any thought, I would have expected to see an article like this.

This iCloud Private Relay looks, smells, and feels very similar to a proxy server. The open source Squid proxy server is doing the same kind of stuff that Apples iCloud Private Relay servers are doing. Proxy servers automatically protect a users original IP address, and a lot more, including logging of web traffic, limiting users traffic, and they can even reroute a user from one web site to another web site, cache web sites. Proxy servers can do a lot more, but the protection of a users IP address is kind of built into every proxy server.
