I have one of the paperwhite kindles, but since I've had iPads, I've been more than content with the Kindle App on my iPad.

I had both a Nook and Kindle, but now I only have the Kindle Paperwhite and I enjoy reading on it a lot when I have the time to read.

Kindle app on iPad & iPhone for me, I have found the Books app much improved in speed recently but cannot justify the higher price of each book.

I was recently at a Women's Retreat/Prayer group. There weren't enough bibles to go around, so I downloaded one on Apple Books and am quite impressed.

Kindle Paperwhite for size and content. There are tons of free books available for Kindle. Not sure if that’s the case for Nook. iPads are just too large for one handed reading IMO.
