It's become routine for apps to have web views and streams, and for web services to have application programming interfaces (API) surfaced by native code. Still, if someone messages you a Twitter link and you tapped on it, you'd be taken to the mobile Twitter site on Safari, not the Twitter app. And if you wanted to get back to Messages, well, you'd need to click, scan, and tap. Until iOS 9, that is, and deep links and back links.
