So I have a question that I'm sure has been answered but I have not found the magical word combination to enter into Google or TiPb's search that gives me the answer. So again I apologize if this has been answered before.
I started using iMessage as soon as iOS5 came out and didn't have any issues. All of a sudden my wife was not receiving any of my text(I'm on WiFi, she is not) when she was at work. I know that (if working properly) once I send the message to my wife and she is not on wifi it should push through as a normal text but she wasn't getting anything.
So when she got home I tested sending her a message and it went through as an iMessage and all was fine. So I turned wifi off on my phone and her's and I was STILL able to send an iMessage. I had the understanding that if the phone(s) is not on wifi that it should send as a normal text.
So I deleted our home wifi off the 2 iPhones and had my wife stay at home and I went to the store. Sent a couple text and they came through as iMessages. I was able to see when she read and was replying to my texts. Baffled by this I then set up my wife's iPad(wifi only) for iMessage and still left my wifi off on my iPhone and I was able to send and receive from the iPad.
So my question is, Is it really sending via iMessage or is it sending as a text but cloaked as iMessage?
Like I said I'm sure this was explained somewhere and I just can't find it but does anyone know how I am able to still send iMessages even though I'm not connected to any wifi?
Also I'm still having hit or miss issues with my wife not getting texts when she is at work. I'm still trying to figure that out?
Thanks for any info.
Chad
Quick Edit: We are using our phone numbers not email for iMessage.
